About Honeybee Lactation and Maternal Wellness
Expert lactation and mental health care in Southwest Ohio
Honeybee Lactation and Maternal Wellness was started with maternal mental health at the forefront. Founded by a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor specializing in perinatal mental health, I know the impacts of breastfeeding and mental health go hand in hand. That’s why I created Southwest Ohio Lactation and Maternal Wellness - to support moms and babies wholly, whether that be through breastfeeding support, mental health support and referrals, or both. I combine expertise in lactation, mental health, and mind/body connection to support YOU as you nurture your little one. Meeting you where you’re at is important to me, so I offer lactation home visits in Southwest Ohio including Wilmington, Cincinnati, Dayton, and surrounding areas, as well as office visits for lactation and mental health support in Wilmington and Cincinnati. Virtual support for lactation is available no matter where you are around the world, and I offer mental health support via telehealth to anyone located within the state of Ohio!
Meet Your Breastfeeding Counselor and Mental Health Professional:
Emilie Cleaver
MA, LPCC, PMH-C, CBC
Hi, I’m Emilie! If you’re looking for compassionate, skilled breastfeeding and/or mental health support, you’re in the right place.
As a Certified Breastfeeding Counselor with an additional certification in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C), I recognize how much breastfeeding impacts your mental health, and how much your mental health can impact your breastfeeding experience. That knowledge informs every aspect of my work. I’ve spent most of my career in the mental health field, where my work with perinatal clients, as well as my own background as a breastfeeding mom, has reinforced my calling to support breastfeeding families.
I’ve breastfed both of my own children for a combined total of almost 3.5 years now (and counting!). I quickly learned how crucial high-quality lactation care is when nursing my first baby became excruciating before we even left the hospital. My own journey with both of my babies included oral ties and revisions, bodywork, finding ways to cope and accommodate my own neurodivergence (as breastfeeding can feel like a total sensory nightmare), and lots of lactation support along the way. Everyone has a unique feeding journey, and I know my story won’t be exactly the same as yours, but I have been there when it comes to experiencing breastfeeding challenges, and I know how hard it can be to do something you may have expected to come so naturally.
Through my work as a Certified Breastfeeding Counselor, I’m accruing clinical hours as I work on requirements toward my ultimate goal to become an IBCLC. I am under the supervision and mentorship of Leslie Owens, RN, IBCLC, and she is the first person I turn to with questions or a referral for a higher level of care. I also have a robust network of IBCLCs and other providers local to the areas I serve in Ohio, should you need care beyond my scope of practice.
Your mental health matters, too! As a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor specializing in perinatal mental health care, I can provide screening and referrals to mental health providers as needed or requested as a part of your breastfeeding consult, or I can provide deeper clinical mental health assessment and recommendations. I also reserve a small number of spots for ongoing mental health therapy. My hope is to honor and respect you and your baby as a dyad, while also holding space for you as your own whole person during this tender part of your life.
I am committed to providing accessible, evidence-based, and inclusive care to all families, including those in underserved and marginalized communities.
When I’m not working with perinatal families, I love exploring local restaurants, coffee shops, and outdoor spaces, reading, crafting, and hanging out with my family and pets. I also teach yoga in my community in Wilmington, Ohio, several days per week. One of my biggest joys and passions is being a part of and giving back to my local community.
